La Casa Cultural is open to all members of the New Haven community. La Casa would not exist without the activism of New Haven residents who advocated for the necessity of a Latine cultural center on Yale’s campus and in New Haven.
Literacy Volunteers of Greater New Haven
Literacy Volunteers of Greater New Haven (LVGNH) hosts English as Second Language (ESL) classes every Monday and Wednesday from 7-9pm for members of the New Haven community. Please contact Donald Desmond at donesl@yahoo.com to learn more information about enrolling in ESL classes at La Casa Cultural. In 2002, members of LVGNH also helped paint the mural on the right side of La Casa, which represents Chicano presence at Yale and Latine unity.
Bridges ESL
A Yale student organization, Bridges ESL provides free English language lessons to adult learners in the Greater New Haven area. Tutors develop personalized lessons to help meet students’ language goals related to employment, education, citizenship, and daily life.
